On June 13, 2019, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed legislation removing non-medical exemptions from school vaccination requirements for children. The United States is currently experiencing the worst outbreak of measles in more than 25 years, with outbreaks in pockets of New York primarily driving the crisis. This new law will help protect the public amid this ongoing outbreak. NB: It has been the policy of our school NOT to accept children who are not vaccinated. There are three attachments for further information.

Boys and girls in grades 5 through 8 may become an Altar Server or Junior Lector. Altar Servers assist at school masses and masses at St. Brigid's Parish. Junior Lectors read at school masses or at the 10 am Family Mass at St. Brigid's Church. Training takes place in September and October with Deacon Darrell.

We are planning our Annual Fall Middle School Trip. We visit Boston, Washington and Philadelphia on a three-year cycle. This year we are going to Boston and Salem, Massachusetts on November 7 and 8. Our itinerary includes a Duck Tour of Boston on land and the Charles River aboard an amphibious vehicle, the Museum of Science, Faneuil Hall and Quincy Marketplace, a walking tour of the Freedom Trail, the Gallows Hill Experience in Salem including an interactive Mock Witch Trial, and Gallows Hill Walking Ghost Tour. The Scholastic Book Fair is coming! Book Fair dates are Thursday, December 5 and Friday, December 6 during the school day for students. Evening event is Friday, December 6, from 7 pm to 9 pm. Join us for Breakfast With Santa on Sunday, December 15 in Monsignor Code Auditorium following the 9:15 am mass in the School Chapel. Enjoy pancakes, sausage and more! Meet Santa! Tickets are $7.00 per person. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be sold at the door. No one will be seated until after the 9:15 am mass. The Parents’ Association will have a Christmas Boutique during Breakfast With Santa on December 15 and on Monday, December 16 during school hours. The Boutique will be located in the lobby of Monsignor Code Auditorium. Gifts are available for friends and family - even pets! Prices are from 50¢ to $14.00. Most items are under $3.00.

Our Pre-K classes are conducting a Christmas Service Project for children battling cancer at Cohen Children's Medical Center and the Cancer Center for Kids at NYU Winthrop Hospital. Please consider donating a CRAFT, TOY or TOILETRIES. All donations MUST be new and unwrapped for the safety of the children we are donating to. Please send donations to school by Friday, December 20 so we can get them to the children before Christmas.

All are invited to the Art Show and Concert on Thursday, May 23. The Art show features student work on display in the lobby of Monsignor Code Auditorium. On stage will be performances by the strings, beginner and experienced band, recorders and the school chorus. Come and enjoy! Doors open at 7 pm, the concert begins at 7:30 pm.

Pentecost is considered the birthday of the Church. We will celebrate Pentecost a couple of days early, on Friday, May 13. Students are invited to dress down and wear red, the traditional color of the Feast. All students will be offered a cupcake after lunch - red frosting, of course!

Plants will be available on Friday, May 11 for students to purchase. Prices range from $2 to $4. There is a limit of 4 plants per child.

Donate $1 and wear the school colors blue and white. The eighth graders will have a bake sale during lunch - prices from 50¢ to $2. All proceeds from the day to benefit the Class of 2016 Leave a Legacy Fund.

Sand Castle School Portrait photographers will be taking Spring Portraits on Monday, April 4 for students in grades 2 through 8, and on Wednesday, April 6 for students in Nursery through grade 1.  Send children to school in Sunday best for their portrait.  Send no money in at this time.
